Training first week over the road trucking
This is a recap of my first week over the road training with Knight Transportation. It has been a great experience. Mainly I am covering what the Atlanta terminal looks like and a little story about why we ended up here instead of continuing on for next week.

E44 - final build (for awhile)
Просмотров 844 месяца назад
How to not make the mistake I made on the first tin roof. In this episode, the last for a while, I will build a roof between the two buildings to keep one side of the cabin from being rained on. This is to compensate for the fact that I did not put eaves on either building. At some point about 3/4 of the way through I will be discussing careers and just a general talk about industries that I’ve...

    Welcome to the world of physics. Condensation water is the main reason for mold in modern insulated houses - if you insulate it wrong. The water comes always from inside (breath, your heater, plants, bathing etc.) and is transported via the warm air to the cold parts of the houses. So the easiest - but not really best solution - is to stop the warm and humid air from reaching the cold spots - a moisture barrier or layer, normally done with special kind of vapor barrier film. Put it just right under the first layer or wood or plaster: air - plaster/wood/ceiling - film - insulation - air - roof. This might help for some time - but you have to make sure, that this film is firmly closed everywhere and no tiny tiny holes help the warm and humid air to reach the cold roof. Your second problem is also the closed metal barrier you made with your roof: it can't dry. You need to make some passages for fresh air from outside to flow right under your metal roof, so insect protected holes for the air all around your eaves and verges to help the insulation dry again. Plain ole roof tiles with lots of air are still the way to go, but they are heavy and need quite some work.

  • @SaintTrinianz
    @SaintTrinianz 6 месяцев назад

    Rockwool should do it... No need to remove the roof (unless it's leaking) just take down your ceiling material to install the insulation. Rock wool is more mold resistant and fireproof than fiberglass. You'll still have to deal with the excess moisture from your propane stove but that's a separate issue from heat rising, hitting the cold metal roof and moisture precipitating out on your ceiling. I hope you have a Carbon-monoxide detector because that might be making you sick. Ventilate, baby!

  • @john_ace
    @john_ace 6 месяцев назад

    Your problem is that the warm and humid air gets in direct contact with the cold tin-roof. When the air gets colder, it releases some moisture on the cold surface (warm air can carry more humidity than cold air). Try painting your wood-paneling on your ceiling with a waterproof paint to prevent the diffusing of humidity into the space above the ceiling under the tin-roof.

    Interesting videos. I tought I would comment :) Dear friend, where do you go when you die? Wow.. that was strange, wasn't it? Strange question. Well, we all thinks about it from time to time. Can a building build itself? No, there much be a builder. I don't think you buildings evolved, and suddenly they were build? Sorry my english, but I don't speak or write it that often, I'm from nothern Europe. I just want to say: Who said He was the way, the truth and the life? Guess? Jesus said so. That's a big statement. He, who knew no sin, became sin for us, He paid the price on the cross, so we can go free (ask Him for forgivness, and turn away from sin: F.ex: Lust, using Gods name as a bad thing, lying, stealing, and so on..) We all have fallen short, and have sined. Why do I take my time to write all of this? Well, because I care about you, and I have watched some of your videoes. Please consider Jesus, and ask Him into your heart to day. Talk to Him, and He will answear. Let Him come into your life, because you never know when your last breath is. God bless. Jesus paid it all with His blood. The blood cleanses us from all sin. The sin dept is paid, and you don't need to go to a terible place after your death, but can be with the Lord in heaven. Read the bible, f.ex. start with Johns Gospel. Thank you for your time reading this.

    The inverter will hit its own low-voltage drop-out before the battery cuts out. So one simple solution is to just connect up a PTC space heater of the appropriate voltage rating directly to the battery. Roughly 300W, and each of those batteries is 12.8V * 100Ah = 1280 Wh, so two batteries makes 2560Wh. 2560Wh / 300W = 8.5 hours to fully drain the batteries from full with a 300W PTC heater. With lithium batteries, particularly because people are working with different voltages, it is better to just consider capacity based on watt-hours of storage and not amp-hours. Watt-hours = amp-hours x voltage, roughly.

    OMG Thank you for sharing this. We did this with our portable back in the 70's, and I had relatives who still had outhouses. My grandmother had actually made a cover lined with shelf liner to make it easier to spray with Lysol to keep clean and to cap the toilets. They didn't worry about toilet paper either! I had one relative who used cheap wash cloths and had their washing bucket there with a cap of lysol in some water for the used ones. Guess what I did when Covid made all the paper goods vanish? I grabbed 80 cheap wash clothes and followed suit! It is rather simple thanks to washing machines today. Wash with lysol and hot water, then 2nd wash is with soap. Works great! Yes, I also follow a color system, so I know which cloths are for which. Dark colors - toilet use & cleaning. Medium colors - house cleaning, esp the kitchen, and pale to white - personal for face, etc. If you find you want softer fabric, you will need to cut the wash cloths in half. I used thinned liquid fabric glue to help reduce fraying. I'm so glad I was shown other ways to handle restroom and personal care where plumbing and certain goods were not common or relied on as much as they are now. Yes, I still follow the wash cloth ritual, finding it to be far more effective at keeping me clean, and TP is now very expensive in the city. I still have TP as back up and for company, because yah, I know it isn't for everyone. As you said, not everyone knows how to handle it.

      That is awesome. You are fortunate to have been educated in this area long ago. 99.9999% of the population will not know what to do in a grid down situation. We really don't even want a septic, except just for grey water stuff, and even that is not actually necessary if you reuse gray water for gardening properly. The color coding is a good idea.

    FYI, voltage is not a good way to determine the SOC of lithium batteries, a 0.2V difference can vastly change the state of charge (70-30%) and testing voltage under load gives false readings, you should look into installing a cheap shunt to ensure you know the actual SOC. Also, it should only take approximately 3.2 hours to completely drain the 200 amp hours (2400 watt hours) if you maxed out the 750 watt inverter.

    • @tyasteele
      @tyasteele 6 месяцев назад

      I've never been in a house with a properly managed dry toilet that smelled at all whatsoever. Even without a diverter. And certainly putting a towel over the hole is insane. And having it in your living room is also insane... that towel?? Jesus.

    • @tyasteele
      @tyasteele 6 месяцев назад

      Dude, I live in a one-room cabin. Where would you expect me to put it? Outside in the 22 degree weather? The towel has a good dampening effect and is a secondary barrier. Probably, also, consider your approach.

    • @Padraigp
      @Padraigp 6 месяцев назад

      @tyasteele outside would probably be the best place for it but you might want the seat inside and the box outside. That towel is disgusting... you can buy or make a proper closing lid if your toilet isn't working well but if youre doing it right there should not be any smell after youve added your dry material. I've been in lots of well made and badly made dry toilets and they are night and day. But no matter how well made it will always stink the place up while your using it ..the towel is...well there is a reason why soft fabrics are not used in bathrooms. I would suggest you get a well fitting closing lid and put your box outside your cabin but your seat inside I its too cold for you to go outside ... that way you don't have a bucket of turds in the corner of your room. The vent can be outside and if you design it properly you can close it off even maybe for defences sake build a small closet or camode for it so that when you are not eating your dinner staring at a toilet with a disgusting towel hanging out of it.

    • @tyasteele
      @tyasteele 6 месяцев назад

      @@Padraigp towel is disgusting? It’s a dry towel. You use it to dampen the smell and then remove it when you use the toilet. I don’t think you understand what’s going on here. I’m in a 12x12 cabin by myself. There is no closet. There is no dining room. I sleep here and that’s it. The lid is a toilet lid. This thing works perfect. I’m not surewhere you’re coming from but you’re not seeing this the way it really is. It doesn’t smell. I appreciate your input and your time but I don’t think you know what you’re seeing. This “bucket of turds” is the standard way you do a compost toilet. It doesn’t sound like you have the experience in this area to be giving this kind of advice. Everybody has a different situation. Mine requires this standard compost toilet.

    • @Padraigp
      @Padraigp 6 месяцев назад

      @tyasteele I have 30 years experience with dry toilets dear I understand perfectly well whats going on. What's going on is you're living in a cabin with a toilet in it for some bizzare reason. And don't like going outside. And have a towel over your shit bucket to catch the smell....which doesn't exist so then don't use the towel if there's no smell.all that towel is doing is collecting fecal bacteria. Which you obviously don't know anything about or you wouldn't be living in a toilet.anyway I understand a lot more than you seem to. It's a badly designed way of living. And sad that not only do you not know any better but you haven't the humility to take critisism.rsther you are arrogant and tell me I don't understand a subject I've worked with for decades. Anyway. Have a day.enjoy living in your toilet with a shit towel hanging out of it. You do you. If that's how you want to live and thats the best you can do then thats how you will gp on.

You can get them off of various places like eBay but you’re taking a risk.
